On Sunday 17/12/2017 at 10am, 14 amazing people set off from our house on a 24 mile bike ride to Rivington Barn in Horwich, and back again. The weather was really against them, it was freezing cold and pouring with rain. This didn’t deter them though, they ploughed on with rain in their eyes, frozen fingers, wet feet and sore bums! Some of them hadn’t road a bike in 10 years! And had maybe one or two little test runs on bikes they borrowed to get themselves re-adjusted.
This was all organised by them themselves, using sponsorship forms they contacted family, friends, colleagues, business’s and the power of social media, to raise as much funds as possible for The Joshua Lancaster Foundation.
We drove and met this amazing group at the half way point (Rivington Barn) with tea/coffee/soft drinks etc. Some of the group decided to stop of at various locations on the way for a toilet break (a pint) whilst doing this some amazing members of the public offered cash donations to them to give to us at the end! We all stayed for a while and ate some really nice food at the barn, to warm their cockles! They then set off back in the same freezing/wet conditions they came in. Not one of them complained, they jumped on their bikes to finish what they had started! Every one of them finished the ride!
Then on the 23rd December we all met at the Boundary Stone pub for a drink and some pub grub! It was a great catch up just before Christmas, we gave every participant a little gift bag as a token of our appreciation. We have made new friends, and this has brought our old friends closer. This is what it is all about, bringing people together for great times and whilst doing that, raising lots of money for amazing children & their families. This group of lovely people managed to raise a whopping £5155.50!!! 14 people!!! They did absolutely brilliant, and should be extremely proud of themselves.
We are going to turn this into an annual bike ride. We are looking to involve as many people as possible next time and double the amount we have raised this year! We are going to be having the next one around May/June 2018 for the better weather! Even if you haven’t rode a bike for a long time, feel you’re unfit… Get involved!! Get fit!! All for a great cause.
